How do you choose the weight of the weighted blanket?
This is very specific.

As a general rule, we take 10 to a maximum of 25 % of the body weight. When choosing the right weight, the size of the blanket also plays an important role. The bigger the size, the higher the weight of the blanket should be.
Usually, for children or adults with autism or ADHD, the weight of the blanket can be slightly heavier.

In practice this is as follows:
For a child that is 130 cm long and weighs 35 kg, has autism or/and ADHD, we recommend an weighted blanket of 100 x 150 cm with 5 kg or 120 x 180 cm with 6 kg. If the size of the blanket needs to be larger, for example a standard size of a single person blanket, i.e. 140 x 200 cm, we recommend 7 kg in this case.
The choice of blanket weight is very individual. A blanket of 140 x 200 cm with a weight of 7 kg can also be suitable for an adult woman (around 55 - 60 kg) who has no sensory integration problems, but is just over-stimulated and has trouble by falling asleep.

Another example is an adult who has been diagnosed with sensory integration disorders, is highly sensitive and has anxiety disorders. For a woman weighing 85 kg we recommend a blanket of 140 x 200 cm with a weight of 10 - 11 kg. If someone prefers to sleep under a large blanket, than may take the 200 x 200 cm blanket and add 2 kg to the weight of the blanket, i.e. the blanket will be 12 - 13 kg.
In case of doubt it is always worthwhile to contact the therapists.

Each case is different and the choice of blanket weight is very individual. If you would like more personal advice, please contact us, we will of course be happy to help you.

What types of materials are used for the weighted blankets?
The blankets differ only visually from each other and from the material that was used.
In ELEGANT and FUN series of the weighted blankets consists of 100 % cotton on one side and soft Minky on the other side, there is a possibility to combine different colors and prints on both sides.
The blankets SIMPLY, CLASSIC, CALMA, are made of cotton
The DELUXE blanket is made of 100% soft velvet fabric and the JOY blanket has a cotton pattern on one side and a velvet fabric on the other.
The CLASSIC, CALMA and SIMPLY weighted blankets are usually used as a duvet cover.
All materials are Oeko-Tex ® certified.
How do I use an weighted blanket?
This is an individual matter, but most customers use the weighted blanket as a replacement for a regular blanket. You can of course use the weighted blanket on top of a normal blanket or under a normal blanket, since the weighted blankets are not very warm. The effect is practically the same, as there is a deep pressure on the body that causes a therapeutic effect.
Can the blanket be used in a regular bed sheet?
The blankets SIMPLY, CALMA, CLASSIC and DOUBLE FUN are usually used in a comforter cover.
You can use your own comforter cover or order a set (weighting blanket + comforter cover) from us. We will then sew loops to the weighted blanket and strings to the comforter cover, so that you can connect both products easily and practically with each other.
Thanks to this system, the blanket does not move around in the cover. If you want the blanket to be sewn with the loops, please indicate this in the comments of your order.
In our offer we have comforter covers in the same sizes as the offered weighted blankets, but of course we can also customize everything for you. During colder nights, customers like to use plush or velvet, and in the summer, cotton comforter covers.
The FUN, ELEGANT, DELUXE, JOY and DOUBLE MINKY blankets are more likely to be treated as weighted bedspreads and it is not necessary to use a comforter cover with them, as they also have a decorative function. These blankets are also often used to relax on the sofa during the day, although they are also great for sleeping under at night.
How warm are the weighted blankets?
The warmth level of our blankets varies depending on the materials used.
If you are usually feeling warm, it is better to choose anweighted blanket without additional warming.
The coldest blanket is the SIMPLY blanket. It is a blanket made of 100% cotton, breathable and of top quality. This blanket, apart from the weight filling, has no thermal insulation layer on the inside.
In addition, FLANEL, CALMA and PREMIUM blankets are also without special warm insulation. These are blankets that feel quite cold.

ELEGANT, FUN and DOUBLE MINKY blankets are also without thermal insulation. However, Minky material, which is used in these blankets and is very delicate, makes this blanket little bit warmer than SIMPLY or CALMA blanket.
The blankets with extra heat insulation inside are JOY, DELUXE, DOUBLE FUN and CLASSIC. The insulation layer is quite thin and just gives the blanket extra thickness, softness and a little warmth. However, these blankets are not as warm as standard blankets.
If you are a person who is always cold, it is nice to use a warm comforter cover with the blanket. We have two types of warm comforter covers: a plush and a velvet comforter cover. A good solution is to use a SIMPLY blanket in a cotton cover in the summer and a plush cover in the winter.
Can I wash the weighted blanket?
Wash at max 30 degrees with a little detergent and fabric softener, while washing in the washing machine is at your own risk. Some washing machines have a load capacity of up to 4-5 kg, while large weighted blankets have a higher weight. We recommend hand washing the blankets and drying them lying down, the blankets should not be put in the dryer.
How do I choose the blanket weight for a two-person weighted blanket?
Choosing a blanket for couples is not so simple, because many factors affect the weight of the blanket. If both partners weigh about 80 kg, both have sleeping problems, and for example one of them has a sensory integration disorder, this does not mean that the weight of the single blanket, i.e. 8-9 kg, should be added together. A blanket of 16-18 kg can be much too heavy.
We usually recommend blankets for two people of 13-15 kg, but of course we can sew a much heavier weight for large blankets. Experience of our customers shows that blankets of 13-15 kg are heavy enough and exert the right pressure on the whole body, ensuring a better and more restful sleep.
Are the weighted blankets safe for children?
Are the weighted blankets safe for children?
Theweighted blankets can be safely used for children 2 years and older, where it is very important to choose the right weight of the blanket. An weighted blanket for child or toddler should be adjusted for the child's height and weight. The weighted blankets should never be too heavy, because the child should be able to pull the blanket off by himself.
For small children and babies, we recommend weighted sleeping bags, which have a similar effect to a blanket, but are much safer for them.
Is it possible to make a blanket in a non-standard size?
Of course, there's no problem with that. All blankets are made once the order has been placed. Our blankets are personalized and sewn exactly according to the needs of the individual customer. To place an order for a blanket in non-standard size, please send an email to info@sensolife.nl
